Christ has called us to make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:18-20). This is one of the primary tasks of the church. The vision for our church is to be disciples making disciples. One of the most vital ways to accomplish the task will be by One-on-One discipleship.
The plan is to have mature followers of Christ meet with the people of our church weekly (or bi-weekly) throughout the week. The meetings will be informal and will contain (1) reading the Scriptures together; (2) praying together; (3) talking about life together. The meetings can be anywhere in the city (home, church, coffee house, restaurant, etc.). They will meet anywhere from 30-90 minutes a week. The person who is discipling will have the freedom to choose what Scriptures they will study together. The only requirement is that it has to be something in the Bible. It can be one-on-one or one-on-two discipleship. It will be strongly encouraged that the people of our church seek out and find other people to disciple. Sign-ups and pairings will also be offered. After the people go through the discipleship process for some time, they will be moved along to find other people to disciple. Thus, we are replicating the process and accomplishing the mission that our Lord Jesus gave us. The plan is very simple and loose in order to reach all the people of our church. There will be a list of “disciplers” who will seek out or be paired up with people seeking discipleship. Men will be paired with men and vice versa with women being paired only with women.
Starting in the beginning of September this discipleship plan will be implemented for Men’s Ministry and then after that for the whole church.
The leadership team will be the Men’s Ministry leaders (Kirk Bennett and Steve Stauffer) and Pastor Mark. They will help any groups that need direction and assign discipleship groups for people interested. They will also oversee the entire discipleship initiative, including all the groups and leaders.
